Do you want to identify and understand the jitter in your
designs before your customers do?
Who wouldnt? Getting a design right the first time
speeds your product to market and can dramatically increase
yields and customer confidence.
In an increasingly competitive and challenging marketplace,
you need every technological edge to assure that your designs
become reliable, consistent and profitable products. Gigamax
can help. We offer solutions for your most difficult design,
debug and characterization issues. Our signal integrity
analyzers and Virtual Instruments software are the most
powerful tools available for the capture and analysis of
jitter and other critical timing parameters.
Throughout the following pages, we will answer the most
common questions about analyzing jitter using our proven
test and measurement solutions. You will learn what many
of the largest semiconductor designers and manufacturers
already know: For jitter analysis and critical time measurement
of high-speed devices, Gigamax sets the standard.

The PLL analysis tool is
used for 2nd order PLLs, can it be used for higher
order PLLs? The current PLL tool is based on a two-pole,
zero transfer function model. It is a 2nd order
system that is capable of addressing the essential characteristics
for a PLL such as natural frequency, damping factor pull-in
time and pull-out range and lock range. Most PLL implementations
in practice are 2nd order systems. Gigamax will
develop > 2nd higher order PLL analysis tools
in the near future. Meanwhile, the current 2nd
order tool may also be used for >2nd order system
for qualitative and diagnostics purposes.To

Since the SIA-3000 can make both amplitude and timing
measurements, which channel(s) do I hook up to for the 6Ghz
sampling scope? Use the same connector for every measurement.
There is no need to disconnect to use another tool. The diagram
at the top of the A45 spec sheet clearly shows that every
single SMA connector (there are 2 per channel) has amplitude
and time measurement circuitry behind it. In other words every
connector is connected to a sampling scope. To measure a differential
signal, two connectors are required. These two connectors
are both on the same channel. The channel is defined by the
timing circuitry that is connected to both connectors. True
differential timing measurements are handled by a differential
receiver component behind this pair of connectors.
A 2 channel SIA-3000 has 4 input connectors with 4 samplers
and 2 timing circuits. A 10-channel system has 20 connectors
with 20 samplers and 10 timing circuits! 20 scopes! To

What if my signal is single ended instead of differential?
Simply connect to only one of the inputs. If only one connector
in a channel input pair is used, the other input will be ground.
Each input is terminated 50ohms to ground. To

What type of loading does the SIA3000 inputs present?
Each input SMA connector is terminated 50 ohms to ground.
If analyzing a CML signal which needs 100 ohms across the
differential pair, the CML interface module (part #040104-00)
must be used. In this case the driver will see a CML load
of 100 ohms.To

What is the Gigamax SIA-3000? SIA is an acronym
for signal integrity analyzer. The SIA-3000 includes Gigamaxs
proprietary and scalable signal integrity analyzer. This instrument,
in concert with the powerful Vitrtual Instruments software
(which runs on the built-in PC and display), performs a wide
range of critical time measurements and jitter analysis functions.
Patented test methods and algorithms enable SIA-3000 users
to measure and analyze jitter with greater speed and with
superior definition than through the use of oscilloscopes
and other general test instruments.To

Who currently uses the SIA-3000?
The SIA-3000 supports a wide range of leading-edge applications.
Anyone who is concerned with stringent timing specifications,
particularly as they pertain to jitter, should add a SIA-3000
system to their test and measurement arsenal. Our customer
list currently includes the biggest names in ATE, semiconductor
and IC design, as well as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet
and other serial data communications development. To

Will the SIA-3000 do more than measure jitter?
The SIA-3000 is a complete time measurement and analysis
tool. With Virtual Instruments software, the SIA-3000 can
perform an impressive number of functions that otherwise
require several instruments. These include an oscilloscope
function, spectrum distribution, function analysis, time
series and time digitizer. The SIA-3000 represents an end
to the limitations and compromises of ordinary test and
measurement instruments. To
Top
Is the SIA-3000 capable of production test?
In addition to its effectiveness as a stand-alone bench-top
instrument, the SIA-3000 may also be incorporated into new
or existing ATE to automate critical tests and extend the
useful life of the ATE system. This operation permits 100%
correlation of characterization and final test by directly
supporting both operations, thus maximizing the benefits
from your costly ATE investment. To

What about training and technical support?
Gigamaxs experienced technical specialists
will assist in all aspects of your SIA-3000 ownership, from
initial setup and training to the development of custom
solutions for your most rigorous testing challenges. With
the SIA-3000, you can be confident that you have the right
tools, the right technology and the right support to quickly
move your design from concept to completion. To
